ENVI Committee Votes on Revisions for Industrial Emission Regulation
On January 11th, the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) cast their votes on the interim agreement regarding the revision of the Industrial Emission Directive (IED) and the Regulation establishing an Industrial Emissions Portal (IEP), a consensus reached on November 28, 2023.
The objective of these agreement texts is to enhance the protection of human health and the environment by diminishing harmful emissions originating from agro-industrial installations. These installations are now obligated to operate under permits issued by national authorities, adhering to the best available techniques (BAT) as the standard. Moreover, the updated regulations aim to augment transparency and public involvement by establishing a more comprehensive and integrated industrial emissions portal.
