A cross-party group of European Parliament lawmakers has united in a call for the creation of an ambitious “European Blue Deal” aimed at safeguarding water resources from climate-induced stress and advancing ocean-based energy sources.
They emphasize the significance of water as a life-sustaining resource and highlight growing pressures on it due to climate change, urbanization, and industrialization. The MPs stress the need for swift action and a holistic strategy spanning sectors like agriculture, environment, industry, energy, and domestic use.
They also call for greater attention to water in green and digital transition plans and advocate for the appointment of a dedicated EU Commission vice-president for water security.
